Megan Haliburton:

After graduating from Dalhousie with a BA in English Literature, Megan settled back in Wolfville where she's lived and worked for the past 8 years. Working at the venerable institution of Light & Shadow instilled a love for communicating with the public and a strong desire to connect with people through fiction. Stories are her passion and the best way she's found to share this interest with others is through the medium of film. Most everyone likes movies and it's one art form that penetrates into all subjects, all interests, and every corner of society. Megan believes that we gain a deeper understanding of the human condition when we immerse ourselves in the lives of other people through fiction and then discuss with what was learned and how we were moved. Plus, movies are incredibly fun!

Cinematopia will endeavour to be a unique video shop in both tone and stock. It aims to be a place where you can find the more obscure & interesting variety of films not readily available in other venues, as well as a place where you can always ask for guidance in your viewing choices. We'll emphasize the best of: new & old, foreign, Canadian, independent & big-budget films while maintaining a warm & approachable atmosphere. Our mainstays will be award-winning films, Fundy Film selections, the best of British drama, cult classics, kids movies and we'll always be open to suggestions. I hope this will not be just a DVD rental business, but also a community meeting place and a haven for movie lovers. Film entertainment is a serious business to us.

Jason Ward:

I was born in Wolfville and went to the local schools: PWES, EMS, Horton High and then finally Acadia. I have lived here so long, I can’t see myself being happy anywhere else (and I did try briefly to live in Ontario). Throughout my life, active living and sport have been my passion. I have always enjoyed that side of life so it seemed like a natural progression to take that passion and study it and turn it into a career. This is why I started a Fitness Instruction business here in the valley, Ward’s Way To Fitness (link to: www.jasonward.net). I am very excited about working with the Dandelion now and in the future, I see a lot of possibility here!

Karin Robertson:

Karin Nerida Robertson has a B.Sc. in Agriculture majoring in Animal Science from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She has worked in the Agricultural Industry as a Record of Performance Inspector for the Provincial Government and administered the Canadian Agricultural Skills Service program for the Federal Government. She has also managed dairy consignment sales, was a buying agent for international dairy sales, and has worked on numerous farms. In addition to her experience in the Agricultural Industry, Karin has managed community capacity building projects in the areas of youth development, education, human resources, and career counseling and transition.

Nerida Heritage Farmstead is located on the Gaspereau Mountain, South of Wolfville, NS. The Farmstead is a place where community connects with stewards of the farm who raise and grow good wholesome food using time-honoured sustainable methods. We specialize in raising Purebred Canadian and Heritage livestock and growing Organic Produce. Many of the animals are both Heritage livestock and on the endangered list with Rare Breeds Canada. All our animals are highly respected and appreciated for their uniqueness and contribution to the farm. They range freely on pasture and are fed all natural grains. No chemicals, hormones, pesticides, or herbicides are used on the farm. All animals are processed in a government-inspected abattoir.

Livestock Developed in Canada: Canadian Rideau Arcott Sheep, Chantecler Chickens, Ridley Bronze Turkeys.

Heritage Livestock: White and Buff Chantecler Chickens, Australorp Chickens, Buff Orpington Chickens, Bourbon Red Turkeys, Ridley Bronze Turkeys, Pilgrim Geese.

Rare Breeds: Chantecler Chickens, Bourbon Red Turkeys, Ridley Bronze Turkeys, Pilgrim Geese.

Other Livestock: Boer goats, Guinea Fowl, Muscovy Ducks, and Great Pyrenees Guardian Livestock Dogs.

Organic Produce: 5 Varieties of Garlic, Vegetables, and Herbs.

Replacement Livestock Sales: Chicks, Poults, Goslings, Keets and Ducklings are available in the spring and summer. Surplus Sheep and Goats are available year round.

Nerida Heritage Farmstead promotes slow food, healthy, wholesome food, local communities, and healthy, happy, sustainable lifestyles. With the goal of linking community members with the farmer who grows their food, direct selling from the farm gate and at the Wolfville Farmer’s market is the primary method of sales. In addition Nerida Heritage Farmstead is committed to developing community through experiential learning, education, personal involvement, and support.

Karin is very excited about becoming involved with the Dandelion Cooperative to help build sustainable communities by supporting local entrepreneurs. She would like to expand her sheep flock to include both registered Canadian Rideau Arcott Sheep and commercial ewes to help meet the growing demand for market lamb and replacement stock. She has negotiated the purchase of bred ewes due to lamb in May, has a suitable barn to house the sheep, and available pasture for them to graze during the summer months prior to finishing and selling them in the fall. With a conservative lambing percentage of 200% it is projected that the sale of market lambs and replacement lambs will realize a profitable return.

Thank-you for supporting the production of naturally grown Canadian and Heritage livestock, Organic Produce, and your local farmer. Karin Nerida Robertson, Nerida Heritage Farmstead 1877 Davidson Street, RR#1 Wolfville, NS, B4P 2R1 (902) 542-2282, karinrobertson@hotmail.com
